WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE STORYTIMES, LIBRARY LESSONS, AND DIGITAL BULLETIN BOARDS?
Library Storytimes
The Summer Library Bundle includes two Library Storytimes – Oceans and Sharks. These are for younger grades, typically K-2 or K-3.
Part I – All my Library Storytimes include a librarian- or teacher-led, whole-group lesson or activity (Part I). Part I includes a song or poem, sign language, and group discussion.
Part II – This an independent activity, designed to keep students on-task during library checkout. The scrolling slideshow can be part of a lesson, or it can just scroll on a monitor. The scavenger hunt includes images for students to find (and color) in Part II of the scrolling slideshow.
Library Lessons
There is one Library Lesson in this Summer Library Bundle – Ocean Biomes. It is for Grades 3-6.
My Library Lessons are for older students, typically Grades 2-5 or Grades 3-6. If you want to use them with younger students, you can do that by shortening the number of slides and/or editing the text as needed.
Part I – Like the Storytimes, the the Library Lessons include two parts. The first part is a whole-group discussion activity. It includes a song or poem, sign language, and group discussion. This first part is designed to be librarian- or teacher-led.
Part II – Like the Storytimes, the second part of the Library Lesson is a scrolling slideshow about that topic. This comes with a differentiated scavenger hunt activity that goes with the slideshow.
The Storytimes and Library Lessons in this bundle all come with librarian-curated Recommended Reads lists and editable, standards-aligned lesson plans. Standards include: CCSS, AASL, and TEKS (Texas).
Digital Bulletin Boards
The Summer Library Bundle includes two Digital Bulletin Boards – June Holidays and Celebrations and July Holidays and Celebrations.
Digital Bulletin Boards are longer scrolling slideshows for elementary students that can read text. They also include curated Recommended Reads lists and two differentiated scavenger hunt activities.
Both the June and July Digital Bulletin Boards include a 2-page handout of themed home extension activities. These are ideal to hand out at the end of library time.
Librarians / teachers can certainly use some slides as a lesson, but it does not have two separate parts like the Storytimes and Library Lessons have.
Digital Bulletin Boards are designed as an independent library activity. They are like Storytimes and Library Lessons, but the Part I whole-group lesson is excluded. The scrolling slideshows are also longer than in the Storytimes and Library Lessons.
The Digital Bulletin Board is not designed as a lesson, so it does not include a lesson plan. It does help keep students entertained so the librarian can deal with book checkout!
ARE ANY SLIDES IN THE SUMMER LIBRARY LESSON BUNDLE DUPLICATED?
Nope! While some information may be similar, no two slides or pages are the same in these library lessons. They are very different from one another.
