SUMMER CAMPING LIBRARY STORYTIME – PART I
Part I is a whole-class library discussion and read-aloud. The slides will walk you through the discussion from start to finish. Remember that the read-aloud must come from you. I am not able to include a read-aloud due to copyright restrictions on published books.
- campfire song — “Down in the Valley”
- campfire song — “Home on the Range”
- 2 sign language signs with video links – “camp” and “summer”
- “Let’s pack for camping!” whole-class game – Students determine which of three items should NOT be taken on a camping trip. (5 questions)
- Storytime slide – add the cover of your read-aloud to introduce it to students
- Reminders for checkout (you can fill in your own reminders)
- “What should we do now?” slide (this is three things your students should do after checkout – edit to add your own directions for students)
SUMMER CAMPING LIBRARY STORYTIME – PART II
Part II is a scrolling slideshow (slide timer instructions included). As students checkout, they can work on one of the two differentiated scavenger hunt activities that go with the slideshow.
One scavenger hunt is an image hunt, so students do not need to be able to read the slides to complete a scavenger hunt.
For students that can read, I’ve included a scavenger hunt with the image hunt and questions about the information in the slideshow.
- mystery animal
- sign language fingerspelling – H-O-T and C-A-M-P (includes images of the fingerspelling signs)
- how to make s’mores, indoors and outdoors
- 2 camping idioms – “breaking camp” and “bigger fish to fry”
- career options for people who love the outdoors – park ranger, lifeguard, and camp counselor (includes a few job duties for each)
- Word of the Week – kayak
- 2 summer camping themed Would-You-Rathers
- 2 trivia questions and answers
- fun things to do while camping
SUMMER CAMPING LIBRARY STORYTIME – PART III
Part III is a newer addition to my Library Storytimes. This is a section of review questions. They are open-ended questions that make great time-fillers or help control potential chaos that sometimes happens at line-up or while waiting for teachers to pick up students from Specials.
This part includes 6 editable questions. All the questions are answered in the presentation, but students can also make up additional answers.
DIFFERENTIATED SPRING STORYTIME SCAVENGER HUNT
- 2 versions + answer key
- Version 1 – students color the objects as they find them in the presentation slides
- Version 2 – questions about the information in the slides + smaller images to find
