SLIDESHOW: SUMMER BOOKS FOR KIDS AND TEENS

This slideshow is editable in Google Slides and PowerPoint. Please feel free to make a copy and edit it for your library as you wish. I’ve included 35 summer-themed titles for all grade levels, but if you don’t have some of the titles, you can switch them out for titles you do have.

Play the slides on a timed loop in the library or hallway to get students excited about summer reading!

To download the digital booktalk presentation, click the link underneath the slideshow below. Click “Use Template” in the top right corner of the page. This will add a copy of the presentation to your Google Drive. You can then edit it as you like to suit your library.

I included some fantastic books below, many of which have starred professional reviews. Some have also won book awards, so it can also make a great collection development tool. I also plan to update these slides from time to time to add new titles!

RELATED SUMMER READING LIBRARY LESSONS

If you need classroom or library lessons to go with these summer-themed book selections, check out my ready-made lessons below! The booktalk slides are the same size and design as the presentations below, so you only need to copy and paste the booktalks into the Library Lesson or Digital Bulletin Board.

*Sixth graders fit into either the Library Lesson or the Digital Bulletin Board. If your sixth graders are on an elementary campus, I recommend the 2-5 Library Lesson if you want to promote the benefits of summer reading and the Digital Bulletin Board if you prefer a passive slideshow of summer-themed information and fun facts. This Summer Books for Kids and Teens Digital Booktalk integrates easily into either presentation.

This Camping Library Storytime celebrates summer, particularly summer camping! Perfect for K-3 school librarians.  This Summer Reading Library Lesson is for Grades 2-5. It's perfect for librarians on the specials library rotation.
