WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Henri and Miko adore everything about autumn: glowing harvest moons, ruby-red leaves, cinnamon treats, cozy stories, and time spent with friends. In the book’s two main stories, the pair celebrates Miko’s invented holiday, Leaf Day, and plans an appropriately spooky movie night. There is some mild suspense when a gust of wind disrupts the friends’ leaf fort, but the stories are gentle, warm, and low-conflict.
Their personalities complement each other beautifully. Miko is energetic and eager for adventure, while Henri is quieter and more cautious. Their friendship is especially sweet because each recognizes what the other needs—including when one friend may not be quite as ready for a fright as they initially claimed.
COZY AUTUMN VIBES
Green’s intricate illustrations are the true star of this book. Created with acrylic gouache and graphite, the artwork features muted autumn colors, delicate lines, and tiny details that invite readers to linger over every page.
This is also more than a traditional picture book. Captioned, comics-style panels give the stories a scrapbook-like feel, while poems, a recipe for Cinnamon Apple Crumb Crumb, a drawing activity, and other special features add plenty to explore.
