I am! My name is Leigh (like “Lee”) Collazo, and I help school librarians thrive in role that is fun and creative, but is also frequently misunderstood and stressful. I love creating and sharing ready-to-go lessons for K-12 school librarians.
I started this site in 2011 simply because I love reading and reviewing books. Initially, all my posts were book reviews and themed booklists.
While I do still write book reviews from time to time, I have gradually switched my focus from book reviews to lesson ideas and management tips for school librarians. Professional book reviews are widely available, but there is a huge need for librarians to share ideas with one another.
New librarians are especially “on their own” in their schools, and many new librarians look to websites like this one for ideas, direction, and a much-needed sense of community. I am honored to be a part of that community and encourage all librarians to reach out and help one another.
I am a Texas-certified PreK-12 school librarian and secondary English teacher. Since 2001, I’ve served school communities at all grade levels, both in Texas and internationally. School libraries my passion, but it’s tough out there. Between full days of classes, duty, troubleshooting technology, and unexpectedly filling in as a sub, we still have to run an organized library program that engages and supports the entire school community.
Too often, we do all this alone. I know how difficult it can be to design creative lessons after a hectic day in the library. If you are feeling overwhelmed, I’m here to help! My mission is to design engaging library lessons, share easy programming ideas, and help you reclaim your nights and weekends.
I love reading a wide variety of books for all ages. My favorite genres are thriller, dystopia, and historical fiction. I especially love books that are set in offbeat places or foreign countries.
