Part I is a guided whole-class discussion. The slides walk you through the entire class discussion, from start to finish. It’s a great way to discuss friendship, what makes a good friend, and how to be a good friend.

  • 3 recommended library read-alouds. Each book has a recommended video link to accompany the story.
  • Storytime song “Rig-a-Jig-Jig”
  • ASL sign language for “friends” — includes video link and clipart image of the sign
  • 6 synonyms for friend + how to say “friend” in six languages
  • Discussion prompts — What makes someone a good friend? What makes someone not a good friend? What are some things good friends do?
  • Slide for your read-aloud (paste the book cover on the slide).
  • Checkout reminders slide — add your own reminders!
  • “What Should We Do Now?” slide — This is very clear instructions on what students should be doing after the lesson.

FRIENDSHIP STORYTIME, PART II INCLUDES:

The second part is the scrolling slides. Set them on a timer to scroll on a screen during library checkout. Students can use the scrolling slides to complete one of the two Scavenger Hunts. All images and information in the slides relate to the Friendship theme.

  • Discussion prompts — “How can you tell your friend is having fun?” and “How can you tell your friend is NOT having fun?” — These can be moved into Part I for additional whole-class discussions.
