Podcast #5: YA/MG Books Exploring Moral and Ethical Dilemmas

Welcome to Podcast #5! Today's podcast features titles about teens and tweens facing complex moral and ethical issues. I decided to focus on moral dilemmas after having a very interesting "What would you do if..." discussion with a Year8 class (7th grade). I included the five discussion questions I used in the PowerPoint below. Please feel free to use them with your own students. The discussions went so well that we ran out of time and only discussed two of the five questions. Still, they were VERY interesting discussions!

I also included a bonus today--an adult fiction book!

THE MORAL/ETHICAL DILEMMAS I USED WITH MY YEAR 8 CLASS:

In the podcast, I mention my use of FirstNews for library lessons and five moral dilemmas my class of Year8 students used for discussion. You can see how I use these to guide my library lessons in the PowerPoint below. All of my library lessons are loosely structured this way (Currently reading, announcements, FirstNews video, activity/booktalk).

Got an answer for the middle school dilemmas I presented in the PowerPoint? Would you lend your friend your new video game? I honestly think I would say no, but it would depend on the friend, too...
