TXLA 2012--Day Three

We had to bypass breakfast at The Cafe this morning because we didn't have enough time to do that and make the "Revolutionary: 2012 End of the World?" author panel, which included Veronica Roth, Robison Wells, Cherie Priest, Neal Shusterman, and Dom Testa.

I attempted to get a copy of Insurgent (Roth) and Unwholly (Shusterman), but WOW, were those lines long...

I am not a huge fan of author panels, which were big on Thursday, so after the Apocalypse panel, I was pretty much done with that. Day 3 was my day to really tour the Exhibition Hall. I got quite a haul today! I got tons of exciting ARCs today including Undead by Kirsty McKay.

My ARC has a different cover from the one pictured here--a cheerleader in the snow holding a bloody ax. AWESOME!

Another ARC I am excited about is Sweet Shadows by Tera Lynn Childs. It is the sequel to Sweet Venom, which I am considering for our school's Lone Star Plus Reading Incentive for the 2012-2013 school year.

Other than its summary, I don't know anything about Dark Companion by Marta Acosta. I am so excited to read it though! The blurb on the front cover says it is recommended for fans of gothic/vampire teen fiction and Jane Eyre fans. Sign me up, please!

I also got signed books from Jackson Pearce (Purity and Fathomless--OMG!!!) and Sara Zarr (Sweethearts and How to Save A  Life). Jackson Pearce is actually as cute as she looks; I heard over and over how funny she was in the "Right Now: New YA Literature to Entice Readers" author panel.

This is the first year I did not attend the Book Cart Drill Team Challenge, but I remember that last time we were in Houston in 2009, I had a very difficult time seeing the action. Instead, I ate with my library ladies at The Cafe (yes, again!). We had a funny and possibly a bit crazy waiter who talked a whole lot and seemed really worried he was going to get fired. During dinner, someone set off an air-horn in the hotel lobby, which for some reason I could not stop laughing at.

After dinner, one of my roomies and I went looking for a geocache challenge item my roommate had not yet been able to find. She had found nine of the ten items and had looked for it a long time the previous day. We worked together on it, and found that pesky little box hiding underneath the grating covering tree roots in Discovery Park. I had never geocached before, but it was pretty cool. Being directionally-challenged however, I have no idea if I would be able to find that stuff on my own!
